Sever Construction: Celebrating 10 Years in Business

Celebrating 10-Years in Construction

As we enter 2020, we have the honor of celebrating 10 years in construction. For a decade, Sever Construction has been serving the Twin Cities as a full-service, relationship-based, construction firm. We provide a value-add experience to our valued clients and trade partners. We’re relentless in bringing solutions to our clients on a variety of projects that span across several industry sectors; playing a central role in office, industrial, medical, retail and technology projects.

Sever Construction: How It All Began

Back in 2009, it was an equally exciting and stressful time for Matt Sever. This was in the wake of a business partnership divide and a downtrodden economy. But the construction industry was what he knew best and in lieu of the economy’s state, Sever recognized a need for a construction firm that could offer great service at competitive prices.

The explicit challenge of building an industry-leading construction firm is what excited Sever. But achieving that goal wouldn’t come easy; banks had essentially stopped lending money and the market was extremely tight and competitive. This is where hard work and strong relationships proved their vitality.

Breaking Through a Strained Market

Set up in a one-room office, Matt Sever and Alex McMillan began reaching out to clients, under the name of Sever Construction Company (SCC). Many loyal and trusting contacts gave the duo an opportunity to build projects that would soon compound into an unabashed portfolio.

Sever Construction aimed to partner with industry professionals to best serve their commercial real estate clients. “I believed if we instilled this message to all our people, we would be successful,” shared Matt Sever on the business core values. From the get-go, Sever Construction took a methodical approach to growth by taking on an appropriate number of contracts so as not to fail yet hold strong to the core beliefs of the business.

Let the Good Times Grow

By year two, headcount increased from two to three staff members. Fast forward to 2020 and the team is now a collection of 16 project managers, superintendents, business development and office staff. “Having a great team and staying in front of project stakeholders has been a great way to remain current and grow,” confided Matt Sever.

Sever Construction has worked on several projects, ranging in size and value, which have produced outstanding results and feedback. A few of these projects include Stericycle, OffiCenters, Energy Management Collaborative (EMC) and Ximedica.

A New Decade

As we enter a new decade, we plan to remain a trusted and competitive partner to the commercial real estate industry and to our valued partners. The future looks bright and we are excited to serve our clients and expand our network in what we believe to be another successful decade.
