The Creator of the Red Laser Dot Moves to New Office in Plymouth
The growing technology team moves into 16,000 square feet of renovated office and clean room space.
Vixar, the creator of the red laser dot, had outgrown their office space and needed to make room for its rapidly expanding operations. Recently acquired by OSRAM, a German multinational lighting manufacturer, the new office located in Plymouth needed to reflect the highly innovative and dynamic nature of their business. This required state-of-the-art lab space and an open, inviting office area that would foster effective teamwork, attract new talent and impress clients.
The overall design and aesthetic appeal applied by Studio BV was specially designed for the Vixar team. The idea of the laser dot was explored by use of subtle geometric patterns throughout the space. The color of red was celebrated. The space is balanced with the use of orange, reflecting the OSRAM brand.
Studio BV was careful to acknowledge that Vixar’s culture is held by the people who work there. “The connections the Vixar team has with each other and the work they do is expressed in moments of gathering. This transpires upon entering the cafe and key meeting spaces,” shared Betsy Vohs, CEO and Founder of Studio BV.
The office layout presents a key fob access entryway with vestibule, large café with a full-service kitchen that boasts a beautiful custom wood slab countertop. Ample seating is supported by café booths, lounge tables and countertop stools for anticipated visitors. There is one large conference room equipped with the latest in AV technology and several breakout spaces for smaller, private meetings.
Open office workstations border the office; whereas, the four clean rooms, restrooms and the office supply station are nestled within the center of the suite. “The clean rooms are flexible and have all the components Vixar will need to continue expanding business. The clean room is visible from the open office through a glass window. This makes a deeper connection with the work in the office areas and the work being developed in the tech space,” disclosed Studio BV.
In the newly remodeled 16,000-square-foot space, the Vixar headcount has increased by about a third over the last year and anticipates its headcount to double over the next three years.
