Sawatdee Minneapolis Remodel

About the Sawatdee Minneapolis Remodel Project

Well-known Thai restaurant selects Sever Construction for its dining, bar, and lobby remodel

The project designer, 7 Edges Design, maintained the traditional elements of Thai design while providing a modern update to the space.

The Sawatdee brand has been around since 1983 and opened its flagship location in the Mill District of Minneapolis in 1986. This well-known Thai restaurant recently updated its interior space. The last renovation was in 1990 which consisted of a bathroom relocation and new tile flooring in the bar area.

Working with 7 Edges Design, our teams enhanced the dining area with a fresh coat of ‘Thai Garden’ paint, new wood subfloor, carpet, and ceramic tile. The 5,500-square-foot interior remodel included new dining area lighting and new ceiling finishes. New entryway doors, a brighter lobby, and a new host station greet its customers. Sawatdee owners sourced beautiful dining room chandeliers and a wall mural artist.

Jennifer Noden, principal designer at 7 Edges Design shared, “the ownership at Sawatdee wanted to maintain the traditional elements of Thai design while updating the space. 7 Edges Design worked with the owners to create a muted and balanced palette that allows the bright, traditional Thai focal elements to rise to the surface. Tactile elements such as high relief sandstone sculptures and traditional carved wood furniture add to the visual impact. And, the food is off the charts, but I can’t take credit for that.”

Our construction team was able to accelerate the project schedule when the restaurant’s capacity was limited due to COVID-19 restrictions. During that time, Sawatdee created a separate takeout station for delivery services while we performed a brief second phase to the vestibule and host stand.

The restaurant has incorporated many features as they adjust to COVID-19 restrictions, including a smart electronic To-Go system, spaced seating arrangements, and new accessories to the host station.

Check out the refreshed restaurant and give some of their signature dishes a try for your next lunch or dinner! Their most popular dishes include the Pad Thai, fresh spring rolls, and the famous Sue’s egg rolls that you may have seen served at the Minnesota State Fair.

Thank you to the project team, Frank Hinck, project manager, and Gary Jacobs, superintendent, for making this downtown landmark project a success!

Thank you to Sawatdee; we value your business and appreciate your partnership!
